Creative director Alise Black is a highly qualified professional photographer with more than 20 years of industry experience in photography, styling and graphic design. Having photographed over 15,000 people, Alise and her female team are leaders in creative acting portfolios.
We create professional acting portfolios for emerging and experienced actors aged 13 to 75+ years. Alise Black Studios specialises in diverse acting portfolios that showcase a range of emotions and styles, which is essential when approaching agents or when self representing.

Our acting clients appear in major Australian & International movies, television shows, TV commercials and theatre productions. At Alise Black Studios, we offer professional headshots and digis / polaroid sittings, a private session with a minimum of 3 different photoshoots and VIP experiences. You can have natural headshots (essential) through to character images that make you stand out. We guide you every step of the way to make it fun, easy and enjoyable.
In around 2010, agents in Australia started to follow the LA trend of moving away from just a 'headshot' and into diverse acting portfolios, to showcase an actor's range and personality. Alise is an expert in this field and will coach you on how to create a collection of character images, to make your acting portfolio interesting to a casting agent and talent scout.
It's really important to have the appropriate hair & makeup styling, coupled with expert retouching refinement, to ensure the images are a polished reflection of you. Over photoshopped or poor quality low resolution imagery will not be acceptable to casting directors. How do we know? Because they are our clients and they keep us updated on the industry's trends. We're here to guide you every step of the way.

We use professional high-definition photographic makeup with micronising foundations for a flawless, camera-ready complexion. Personalised colour palettes are created to complement your unique features.
Natural retouching — including removal of blemishes and body marks — is applied before you see the images. A retouching menu is also available for additional refinement or specific requests.

What is the difference between actor headshots and an acting portfolio?

Do you provide direction and posing guidance?
Absolutely. Most people aren’t trained to “self-direct” on camera. We guide you through posture, micro-expressions, breathing, hands, and eye focus so your images look natural, confident, and castable.
